Office 365 Documentation

Getting Started

Should I use Outlook Web App, Outlook, or somthing else on my computer?

While most email clients will work, we recommend Outlook Web App (OWA) or Outlook for most AU staff. If you currently use the web interface for Zimbra we suggest you try OWA first. If you currently use Outlook (or another mail client like Thunderbird) we recommend trying Outlook first. You can also read the article below from Micrsosoft for more information.

How to decide whether to use Outlook or Outlook Web App

Connect via the Web Interface - Outlook Web App (OWA)

Office 365 - Outlook Web Access (OWA) Web Access (most web browsers, no configuration required)
Office 365 Quick Reference for Zimbra Users

Installing the Office 365 application suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Skype for Business, etc.)

Office should already be installed on your AU computer or Virtual Desktop (Citrix), these instructions are for your personal computer(s) only. You get 5 free installations for your personal and AU computers. Please keep at least one of these 5 licenses available for your AU computer, as we will probably need to switch AU computers to these licenses at renewal time.
Do not install these free copies on your AU computer at this time unless directed to do so by IT staff.

Install Office 365 on your personal Windows computer
Install Office 365 on your personal Apple OS X computer

Setting up your Desktop mail client

While you can setup multiple accounts in most mail clients, if you are using a desktop email application (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc) we recommend using one client for Office 365 and another for Zimbra to avoid confusion. For exmaple you could use Outlook for Office 365 and Thunderbird for Zimbra. If you use the Web interface for one or both that is fine.

Outlook for Windows
Outlook 2016 for Mac
Outlook for Mac 2011
Mozilla Thunderbird (Web Page)
Mozilla Thunderbird (PDF)
Mac Mail (Apple OS X) Select "Set up Exchange account access using Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard or later"
IMAP/POP/SMTP settings for other mail clients Use 'Exchange Server' if your client supports it. If not use IMAP, not POP, if possible.

Setting up your Mobile Devices with Office 365

While you can setup multiple accounts in some mail apps, if you are using an apps on mobile devices we recommend using one app for Office 365 and another app for Zimbra to avoid confusion. For example you could use the built in client for Zimbra, and the Outlook app for Office 365.

iOS (iPhone/iPad) Select "Set up work or school email accounts that use Office 365"
Android Select "Set up work or school email accounts that use Office 365"
